Donavan Lee Kuhl
About Me

My name is Donavan Lee Kuhl, and I was born in 1991 and have spent almost my entire life in my hometown of Mineral Wells, TX. I am an alumni of Mineral Wells High School of the class of 2009, and an alumni of Weatherford College, class of 2015.
I began my college career at Weatherford College in the Fall of 2009 immediately after graduating High School. I initially began as a music major, but have changed majors a few times since.
During my time at Weatherford College I served as President and de facto Secretary and Treasurer of the Weatherford College Art Club for two years. During my presidency, the WC Art Club went to Scarborough Faire twice, the Kimbell Museum twice, The Amon Carter Museum, and the Modern Museum twice. We held two bake sale fundraisers, and participated in community services such as making quilts and putting together care packages to send to our troops stationed overseas.
My views on art, as well as any other aspect in life, tend to be varied. I love looking at and studying the great masters of our past; however, there is also a lot to learn from newer contemporary artists.
I think the basic principle of Omnism can be applied to any aspect of life. While the different and distinct concepts of old-school and new-school do exist, I believe they do not have to be mutually exclusive and that there are things of value that we can learn from all schools of thought. A fusion of the best of both worlds can be achieved.

While I have sold artworks to people in the past, I consider myself far from being a professional artist. I consider myself more of an art student and hobbyist than a professional.

For six months in the year of 2012 I worked at a print shop called 'Bennett's Brazos Printing' in Mineral Wells where I operated offset printing presses and worked in bindery. There I learned a little bit about the history and disciplines of the art of printmaking. This knowledge has affected me and influences my art to a degree. I would very much like to experiment with this medium and artform in the future.

My education consists of a High School Diploma from Mineral Wells High School (2009) and an Associate's Degree in General Studies from Weatherford College in Weatherford, TX (2015).
I attended one semester at the University of North Texas in Denton to pursue a degree in Studio Art with a focus in Drawing and Painting, but I found their style of teaching and their principles to be far from what I expected and what I wanted my art education to be. I left UNT in the Fall of 2015. My time at UNT was disappointing, but I nevertheless learned a great deal from my time there.
I have not created much art since leaving UNT. I have instead directed my focus toward my career as an estimator in a roofing and general construction company for whom I have been working for since late 2018.
Occasionally I will sit down to create a piece when the mood strikes, but I find the mood strikes much less often than it used to.
